
NEW HANOVER COUNTY — New Hanover High School was on lockdown due to a social media threat of a gun on campus Monday. By the afternoon, a student was taken into custody.
According to Lt. Jerry Brewer of the New Hanover County Sheriff’s office, a video was posted to social media of a male holding a gun inside the bathroom at school. The student is being charged with felony possession of a weapon on educational property.
New Hanover County Schools spokesperson Sal Cardella told Port City Daily the school was placed on lockdown around 10 a.m. and parents were notified via email and text around 10:45 a.m.
Authorities began checking classrooms to look for the suspect.
By 12:30 p.m. the lockdown was lifted, without injury.
