WILMINGTON — With a look straight out of Tennessee’s famed Sun Studios, Red Clay Strays is more than a country band. They blend Southern soul with rock-and-roll, bringing fire and brimstone to every note.

“They definitely had that vibe of a band on the rise,” according to MoonFrog Media photographer Tom Dorgan, who captured Red Clay’s first stop at Greenfield Lake Amphitheater in Wilmington last week.

It wasn’t their first go in the Port City; they played Bourgie Nights two years ago. GLA was packed with a sold-out crowd and the band announced they’ll be opening for Rolling Stones in Boston as part of its 2024 Hackney Diamonds tour.

Performing more than a dozen songs, the Alabama band played through tracks including “Rambling,” “Wondering Why” and “Moment of Truth.”

Opening was Troubadour Blue, out of Nashville, who performs three-part harmonies.

Below are Dorgan’s photos from the show.
