Wilmington Police Department officers have charged 42-year-old Steven Lavern Nixon with robbery with a dangerous weapon, first-degree kidnapping, felony larceny, and resist/delay/obstruct public officers.

Nixon allegedly robbed a convenience store and gas and vape shop on the same day, 15 hours apart.

The first incident took place just after 2:30 a.m., as officers were called to a Scotchman at 901 S. Third Street to investigate an armed robbery. According to Wilmington police, upon entering the store, Nixon implied to the clerk he had a gun in his pocket. He fled the store with cigarettes and cash, traveling on a bike southbound along Third Street.

Just after 5:30 p.m. the same day, a person matching the description Nixon also held up the Easy Vape and Tobacco store, 1929 Oleander Drive, implying he had a gun. The suspect got away with merchandise and money but not before forcing “employees to go into a back room of the business,” WPD indicated in a press release.

The officers made the arrest that evening, with the help of NHSO deputies from the Mobile Field Force. They apprehended Nixon in the passenger seat of a vehicle during a traffic stop.

Nixon is currently being held at the NHCSO Detention Center without bond. It’s his second arrest in less than a year, as Nixon was charged last summer in the robbery of a Subway on Dawson Street. Employees at the time described the suspect entered, said he had a gun, demanded cash and fled.
