NCDOT announces traffic changes ahead of Azalea Festival

More than 300 arts and crafts vendors and 40 food trucks will line downtown streets in early April for the North Carolina Azalea Festival. (Courtesy photo)

WILMINGTON — The Azalea Festival will take place April 3 through 7 at various times and locations across Wilmington.

While all lanes of the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge will be open, some traffic patterns will be different to accommodate the thousands attending the festival. 

The intersection of Airlie and Military Cutoff roads will be closed for the Garden Party between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on April 5. 

On April 6, from 9:30 to 11 a.m., the Azalea Festival Parade will take place, closing a portion of N. Third Street and several side streets.

Below streets also will be closed throughout the festival downtown:

  • North Front Street between Red Cross and Orange streets
  • Walnut Street intersection with N. Front Street
  • Grace Street intersection with N. Front Street
  • Chestnut Street intersection with N. Front Street
  • Princess Street intersection with N. Front Street
  • Market Street between N. Front & Water streets
  • Second Street between Market and N. Front streets
  • Dock Street between Second Street and most of Water Street
