WILMINGTON — A Wilmington man is being charged with misdemeanor communicating threats and misdemeanor violation of a domestic violence protective order after barricading himself inside a home this past weekend.
Officers from the Wilmington Police Department responded to a call on Saturday in the 1500 block of West Fish hawk Court for a restraining order violation and communicating threats. When officers arrived they met with the female victim, she told officers that a roommate was in the house and had threatened her. The victim also explained to officers that she had a 50B domestic violence protective order against the male.
Officers obtained the information on the offender and identified him as Jamie Crowell, a 39 year old Wilmington man. Upon further investigation the restraining order was verified to be valid. When officers went to speak with Crowell he closed and locked the door, barricading himself inside the residence.
Members from the WPD Crisis Negotiation Team responded along with members of SWAT who were already on duty. Officers secured the perimeter of the house and negotiators began their work by establishing contact with Crowell. Crowell initially denied being at the residence, but after a while he admitted to being in the residence but refused to come out.
WPD negotiators continued to speak with Crowell who ultimately came outside and surrendered without incident or force being necessary.
Crowell will be taken to the New Hanover County Detention Facility once he has completed processing with WPD. At the time of this writing he is still awaiting his appearance before a magistrate.
