Almost two months after North Carolina Medicaid expansion began, the state has reached more than half its expected enrollment in the first two years; it anticipated roughly 600,000 would be newly eligible for comprehensive healthcare.
“We launched Medicaid Expansion in record time and are now enrolling people faster than other states,” NC Medicaid Deputy Secretary Jay Ludlam said in a press release sent from North Carolina Health and Human Services Department
According to the department, 346,408 people have signed up as of Feb. 1 for better care and access to prescription. Medicaid has covered more than 265,000 so far for medicines that cover heart health, diabetes, seizures and other illnesses.
It’s also received $4.8 million in claims for dental services since Dec. 1, 2023.
“These individuals and families are seeing providers, utilizing preventative and specialty care, and getting life-saving prescriptions,” according to NCHHS secretary Kody H. Kinsley said.
