Pender County schools to provide free online tutoring for military families

(Port City Daily/File)

PENDER COUNTY — Tutor.com, a Department of Defense-funded program, is extending its free online homework help and tutoring to military families located in Pender County.

The tutoring website will be made available for non-military families for the remainder of the school year with access via a generic code.

Tutor.com is accessible 24/7, features an interactive online classroom and nearly 4,000 tutors from around the world. Students reported it helped improve grades and enhance learning.

Pender County Schools is continuing to assess tutoring options at district schools. They are looking to hire 15 to 20 tutors for seven low-performing area schools, C.F. Pope Elementary, Burgaw Middle, Cape Fear Middle, Malpass Corner Elementary, Pender High, Penderlea Elementary, and West Pender Middle. The district is mainly searching for math tutors.

All families requesting more information regarding Tutor.com, along with obtaining the generic access code, should contact their child’s teacher.
