Carolina Beach is the only beach town to charge for parking during the off-season, except in January and February. Many people at last week’s meeting claimed the revenue the town nets during the off-season, around $26,000 last year, was not enough to justify charging to park.
The town announced earlier in the month it would provide free parking in designated on-street spots Monday through Wednesday in December.
Tuesday, it changed course and announced free parking in town-operated lots and on street will exist throughout the remainder of December.
The town stated in a press release: “Parked vehicles should abide by all other parking rules such as time limits, space constraints, and residential right of way restrictions.”
Parking will also be free January and February; paid parking enforcement will start again on Carolina Beach on March 1.
