Shooting in Creekwood area leaves one person dead

WILMINGTON — A victim transported to Novant Health Saturday evening from gun shot wounds succumbed to injuries, according to law enforcement.

The Wilmington Police Department arrived in the Creekwood neighborhood on Saturday just after 11:15 p.m. in response to a call for service. They heard gunshots near the vicinity of their location, began looking for where they were fired, and then were dispatched to the 1100 block of Stewart Circle due to shot spotter activation.

When units arrived they located the victim suffering from gun shot wounds, who later died after EMS took the person to the hospital. The name of the victim is being withheld at this time to ensure next of kin has been notified. The investigation is ongoing and more information will be released when possible.
