WILMINGTON — Two incidents involving gunfire took place over the weekend in downtown Wilmington and just over a mile away on Wooster Street.

According to the Wilmington Police Department, on Aug. 26, just after 1:30 a.m., a brawl outside of a bar at Princess and Water streets left a 17-year-old shot with a non-life-threatening injury. The teen was transported to the hospital.

A bar employee told members of the Downtown Task Force, a person — in possession of a gun — was involved in a fight. Nearby officers and deputies located the suspect among a group of people, but before they were able to approach, officers heard gunfire and describe seeing an African American man fleeing on foot.

The man was able to load into a black sedan and get away, despite officers’ efforts to catch him, according to WPD. Detectives concluded the incident was a result of a disagreement between the two people involved.

The following day, Aug. 27, after 5 p.m., WPD units responded to a reported shooting in the 300 block of Wooster Street. A vehicle was at a stoplight at Third and Wooster streets, near the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge, when a driver from another vehicle opened fire. Several rounds struck the vehicle and hit a victim, resulting in a non-life-threatening injury.

WPD called it an isolated incident.

The suspect was driving a grey Mitsubishi, according to the police. Anyone with information should call (910) 343-360 or send an anonymous tip to the Tip 411 app.
