WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH — Law enforcement from a New Hanover County beach town have determined the cause of a man’s death, after finding him unresponsive in his vehicle earlier in the week.

On the morning of Aug. 14, officers located Brandon Richie, 36, of Raleigh at 15 Stone St. in Wrightsville Beach. The Wrightsville Beach Police Department said it recovered a firearm from inside the vehicle.

Richie’s wound appeared to be self-inflicted, the police noted in a press release. However, a report from the medical examiner’s office is pending.
