CAROLINA BEACH — One pedestrian was sent to the hospital Saturday in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle in Carolina Beach.

The Carolina Beach Police Department, Carolina Beach Fire Department and New Hanover County EMS were dispatched to Raleigh Avenue and N. Lake Park Boulevard around 12:52 a.m. Aug. 5.

Upon arrival, officers located the victim and began providing medical aid. The victim, identified as Shala Davis of Carolina Beach, was transported to Novant NHRMC for serious injuries.

The driver and passenger of the vehicle that hit the person remained on scene. Officers began their investigation by speaking with the two individuals, as well as multiple witnesses on scene.

Davis was crossing N. Lake Park Boulevard westbound, not in a marked crosswalk, when she entered the lane of the vehicle traveling southbound.

Officers determined impairment was not a factor in the collision but the investigation is ongoing to determine other contributing circumstances.
