[Update: The City of Wilmington has been notified the unloading of rail will not proceed on Aug. 1 due to mechanical difficulties. It could happen as early as Wednesday, Aug. 2, which the city will update media outlets on.]
WILMINGTON — CSX will be depositing long spans of rail throughout the city’s north end today, Tuesday, August 1, in preparation for a future rail maintenance project.
Roads affected include King Street, 23rd Street, 30th Street, Princess Place, Clay Street, Henry Street and Market Street. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., drivers should expect delays at railroad crossings due to a slow-moving train carrying the rails.
Notified Tuesday, the City of Wilmington stated it has requested CSX arrange to offload its rail between intersections to minimize traffic delays. The city is also putting plans in place so that emergency services are unaffected by the rail delivery.
The city is encouraging drivers to use alternative routes to avoid traffic delays.
