CFCC has a new dean and LatinEx Fellow

WILMINGTON – Cape Fear Community College has a new dean in one department and another employee further expanding LatinX outreach statewide.

Jocelinne Perfecto, CFCC Latino outreach coordinator, was recognized as a 2023 LatinxEd Fellow. She will join 13 other Latinx leaders from across North Carolina to engage in leadership development. LatinxEd helps with opportunities to empower LatinX students in higher education.

Perfecto, who has held the position since January 2023 as CFCC’s first Latino outreach coordinator, will further develop and advance education equity and opportunity on campus.

“Jocelinne has played a pivotal role in fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for our LatinX students to thrive academically and personally,” Sabrina Terry, CFCC vice president of student services, said in a press release.

Lucinda McNamara was named dean of university transfer and partnerships and will work with the transfer department of the college. She also will build relationships with other colleges, universities and high schools throughout the state.

McNamara holds a master’s degree in Television and Film from San Diego State University. She has worked in education for 23 years and taught courses in scriptwriting, history of cinema, documentary production, war in film, introduction to film and advanced film.

“Lucinda has proven to be an exceptional leader during her tenure at Cape Fear Community College,” Brandon Guthrie, CFCC vice president of academic affairs, said. “We are excited to see her step into the role of Dean, where we are confident that her vision and dedication will elevate the achievements of CFCC.”
