NEW HANOVER COUNTY – New Hanover County property owners should start receiving their tax bills soon.

The county has begun mailing out the notices; homeowners can expect them by mid-August. Bills are due Sept. 1, but can be paid without penalty until Jan. 5, 2024.

Property owners whose taxes are paid via an escrow will receive a courtesy notice of their tax bill and are encouraged to verify taxes are paid with their mortgage company.

New Hanover County’s tax rate is $0.045 per $100 for the 2023-24 fiscal year. The fire services rate for residents in the unincorporated area of the county is set at $0.725 per $100. View more information about the county’s tax rate and budget can here.

The county’s rates also include municipality taxes for the City of Wilmington, Carolina Beach, Wrightsville Beach and Kure Beach.

Rates are:

  • Carolina Beach – $0.0215 cents per $100
  • City of Wilmington – $0.0395 cents per $100
  • City of Wilmington Municipal Services District – $0.647 cents per $100
  • Wrightsville Beach – $0.923 cents per $100
  • Kure Beach – $0.2658 cents per $100

Property owners in the unincorporated area of the county will be charged a fee for the county’s Stormwater Services Program, listed as a separate line item on the bill. More information can be found at Engineering.NHCgov.com.

“To avoid having to pay interest on taxes, we encourage individuals to reach out to our office before taxes become delinquent on Jan. 5, so we can arrange alternate payment options when possible,” New Hanover County Tax Administrator Allison Snell said in the release.

In order to assist property owners, and to encourage fewer late payments, the county tax office is including four payment coupons inside every tax bill which shows the total amount owed, divided into four equal payments.

The tax office accepts credit card, debit card and E-check payments in-person, online at InvoiceCloud or by calling 1-877-309-0878. Online payments will incur a service fee.

Payments can be mailed to New Hanover County Tax at P.O. Box 18000, Wilmington, N.C. 28406, or dropped off in person. There is an outdoor drop box located at the right of the main entrance of the New Hanover County Government Center.

Taxpayers with questions can call 910-798-7300 or submit a payment arrangement form.
