WILMINGTON — A known felon was sentenced by a U.S. district judge Wednesday to 70 months in prison for possession of a ghost gun.
Shyheim Zyaan Waters-Davis, 20, pled guilty in March to the charges. Beginning in October 2022, Wilmington Police Department received information Waters-Davis was selling crack cocaine and was known to carry a firearm.
Law enforcement then conducted several controlled purchases of crack cocaine from Waters-Davis and one month later, secured a search warrant for his home. Officials found 123 grams of marijuana drug paraphernalia, a stolen 9 mm firearm with 50-round drum magazine, cash and a privately manufactured firearm — aka a ghost gun — with a 24-round extended magazine.
At the time, Waters-Davis was on state probation for felony breaking and entering or entering a motor vehicle.
U.S. District Judge Richard Meyers II sentenced Waters-Davis.
Other agencies that assisted WPD in the investigation include the FBI’s Coastal Carolina Safe Street’s Gang Task Force, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
The conviction is a result of the ongoing Violent Crime Action Plan initiative, which is collaborative effort with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, working with the community, to identify and address the most significant drivers of violent crime.
