Monday, May 1
The Pender County Board of Commissioners will meet at 4 p.m. at the Pender County Public Assembly Room, 805 S. Walker St. in Burgaw. The meeting can be livestreamed here. A few items on the agenda include:
- Resolution to request approval to increase purchase order to Cape Fear Engineering by $63,000 to conduct Environmental Investigation Services for the proposed new health and human services building site.
- Consideration of cooperative agreement with the North Carolina Office of Recovery and Resiliency for the implementation of their strategic buyout program
- Presentation of the 2022 Community Health Assessment
New Hanover County Board of Commissioners will meet at 4 p.m. at the NHC historic courthouse, 24 North Third St. The meeting can be livestreamed on NHCTV and YouTube. A few items on the agenda include:
- Approval of a construction contract to Wells Brothers Construction for infrastructure at Blue Clay Business Park
- A public hearing for rezoning 29 parcels, totaling 42 acres on Carolina Beach Road, from R-15 to R-5, moderate-high density for 10 single-family lots and 327 residential townhomes with associated open space and amenity center. The applicant has asked for a second continuance
- A special-use permit request for an additional dwelling allowance to increased maximum density to 10.2 units per acre for four parcels, totaling 6.24 acres on Piner Road
Wilmington City Council will hold an agenda briefing at 8:30 a.m. at city hall, 102 N. Third St. The meeting can be livestreamed on GTV8 and YouTube.
The Southport Board of Aldermen will hold a budget workshop at 9 a.m. in the Southport Community Building, 223 E. Bay St. Meetings can be livestreamed here.
H2GO board of commissioners will host a special budget meeting at 3 p.m. at offices of H2GO, 516 Village Rd. in Leland.
The Brunswick County Board of Commissioners are meeting at 10 a.m. to discuss the budget for fiscal year 2024, including general fund draft recommended budget and capital improvement plan, Brunswick County Schools capital plan, enterprise fund draft recommended budget and capital improvement plan rate and fee recommendations. At 3 p.m., Brunswick County Board of Commissioners will hold their regular meeting. Items on the agenda include a request from Brunswick County Board of Education to receive an extension on budget submittal, resolution approving Brian Chism as Brunswick County Sheriff, request from Brunswick’s NAACP president for extending water and sewer lines to disadvantaged residents. Tuesday, May 2
The New Hanover County Board of Education will meet at 5 p.m. in the Board of Education Center, 1802 S. 15th St. Meetings can be livestreamed here. The agenda includes:
- Student discipline update
- Strategic plan update
- Amendments to the call to the audience procedures and rules of decorum
- County budget request for fiscal year 2023-2024
The Wilmington Housing Authority Board of Commissioners will meet at 4 p.m. at Rankin Place Terrace, 415 N. 12th St. The Housing and Economic Opportunities Inc. Board of Directors will meet immediately following and the Glover Plaza Inc. Board of Directors will convene after that.
The Pender County Planning Board will meet at 7 p.m. at the Hampstead Annex Auditorium, 15060 U.S. Highway 17, Hampstead. The meeting can be livestreamed here. A few items on the agenda include:
- Request to rezone two tracts of land totaling 29.6 acres from low density residential to medium-density residential
- Request to rezone two tracts of land totaling 20 acres from residential performance to planned development
- Conditional zoning amendment revision request for the Falls Mist Development
The Surf City Town Council will meet at 4:30 p.m. at the Surf City Municipal Complex, 214 W. Florence Way. The meeting can be livestreamed on YouTube. An agenda was not posted by press.
The Topsail Beach Parks and Recreation Board will meet at 10 a.m. at town hall, 820 S. Anderson Blvd.
The Wilmington Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization’s Boundary, Governance, and Structure Subcommittee will meet at 1 p.m. in the fourth floor technology conference room at 305 Chestnut St. in Wilmington. The meeting will not be livestreamed. The purpose is to review 2020 urban area boundaries and 2045 Wilmington boundary projections.
Wilmington City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. at city hall, 102 N. Third St. The meeting can be livestreamed on GTV8 and YouTube. A few items on the agenda include:
- Public Hearing for fiscal year 2024 annual action plan for CDBG & HOME Funds
- City’s recommended fiscal year 2024 budget presentation
- Public hearing for an annexation of 5029 Carolina Beach Road for the development of a 56-unit affordable multifamily housing complex for seniors
- Rezoning 2.44 acres at 2402, 2406, and 2420 S. 17th Street and 1608 Wellington Avenue from Office and Institutional District and Community Business (Conditional District) to Community Business for an incoming Wawa. Read PCD’s coverage here.
The Brunswick County Board of Education will meet at 6 p.m. in the conference room of The Center of Applied Sciences and Technology, 1109 Old Ocean Highway in Bolivia. Meetings can be livestreamed here. The agenda includes:
- K-5 literacy adoption
- Alternative accountability model
- Policy 1320 annual review
Wednesday, May 3
The Kure Beach Planning & Zoning Board will meet at 6 p.m. in council chambers at town hall, 117 Settlers Lane. The agenda includes:
- Discussion of permitted uses for the following districts: RA-3, RA-3A, RA-4, RB-1
- Prioritization of remaining ordinance chapters for revision
- Batteries used for electricity storage
The Surf City Tourism, Promotion and Special Events Subcommittee will meet at 1:20 p.m. at the Surf City Municipal Complex, 214 W. Florence Way.
The Surf City Parks, Recreation and Tourism Advisory Board will meet at 3 p.m. at the Surf City Municipal Complex, 214 W. Florence Way.
The North Topsail Board of Aldermen will meet at 11 a.m. at town hall, 2008 Loggerhead Court. The meeting can be livestreamed here. A few items on the agenda include:
- Consider an MOU between the town and NCDOT to investigate and potentially pursue bike lanes along New River Inlet Drive
- A proposal to prepare a draft 30-year BIS Management Plan with TI Coastal for $45,000
- Presentation on service provided by Onslow United Transit Services (OUTS) available to residents and visitors to North Topsail Beach
The Topsail Beach Planning Board will meet at 10 a.m. at the Assembly Building, 720 Channel Blvd. The meeting can be livestreamed on the town’s website and Facebook. The two items on the agenda include:
- Consideration of a special-use permit for Godwin’s Market, self-service ice-vending machine

The Topsail Beach Board of Commissioners will hold a budget workshop at 2 p.m. at town hall, 820 S. Anderson Blvd. The meeting can be livestreamed here.
The Wilmington Planning Commission will meet at 6 p.m. at city hall, 102 N. Third St. The meeting can be livestreamed on GTV8 and YouTube. The agenda includes two items:
- Conditional district rezoning from medium-high-density mixed residential district to urban mixed-use for 1.4 acres for a proposed mixed-use building, Pearl II. Read PCD coverage here.
- General Rezoning of 3743 Independence Blvd. for 21.44 acres from Office & Institutional (Conditional District) to Regional Business District
The Burgaw Beautification Committee will meet at 8:30 a.m. at the Historic Train Depot, 115 S. Dickerson St.
Cape Fear Public Utilities Authority’s finance committee will meet at 9 a.m., followed by the 10 a.m. executive committee meeting. An agenda was not posted for the executive committee; the finance committee will discuss a banking contract renewal. The meeting takes place in the IT Conference Room at 235 Government Center Dr.
The New Hanover County Airport Authority will meet at 5 p.m. in the ILM Executive Conference Room. Items on the agenda include approval of extending rental car concession agreements and service facility center agreements to January 31, 2024 and update on the terminal curb, road realignment and parking improvements.
Thursday, May 4
The Burgaw Tourism Development Authority will meet at 8:30 a.m. at the Historic Train Depot, 115 S. Dickerson St.
The New Hanover County Planning Board will meet at 5 p.m. at the New Hanover County Historic Courthouse, 24 North Third St. The meeting will be livestreamed on NHCTV and YouTube. A few items on the agenda include:
- A rezoning request for 7 parcels totaling 11.77 acres on Carolina Beach Road from R-15 to neighborhood business and residential multi-family for a gas station and 128-unit multi-family development
- A text amendment request to amend community information meeting standards
- A special-use permit request for a childcare center at 320 Van Dyke Drive
Friday, May 5
The Southport Board of Aldermen will hold an agenda review at 9 a.m. in the Indian Trail Meeting Hall, 113 West Moore St. Meetings can be livestreamed here.
