CFCC launches new construction academy

WILMINGTON — Cape Fear Community College has announced the launch of the Construction Academy designed to prepare participants for a construction industry career.

The Construction Academy is an intensive 10-week course from June 19 to Aug. 30, 2023. Classes are held every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The academy costs $190, which includes access to all materials and equipment.

The program is open to anyone interested in pursuing a career in construction, regardless of prior experience or educational background.

During the program, students will learn about Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards, basic safety, introduction to construction, math, hand tools, power tools, construction drawings, basic rigging, communication skills, employability skills, and materials handling. In addition, students will be able to shadow professionals from CFCC’s partners Balfour Beatty, Carmichael Construction Company, Monteith Construction Corporation, and Paragon Building Corporation.

“We are thrilled to be launching our new Construction Academy program,” CFCC President Jim Morton said in a press release. “Construction is a vital industry that offers tremendous opportunities for growth and career advancement, and we are proud to play a role in equipping the next generation of builders.”
