WILMINGTON — Two new shows have been added to Live Oak Bank Pavilion’s downtown lineup this concert season. One tour is celebrating 50 years of hip-hop and another is bringing to light a husband-and-wife team revered for their musicianship.
Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi will bring their brand of American rock to downtown’s Riverfront Park this September as part of its 20-plus stop tour. Masters of the Mic, featuring Big Daddy Kane, Doug E Fresh, KRS One, Rakim and Slick Rick are performing a month before.
Tedeschi Trucks Band
Tedeschi Trucks Band is scheduled to perform Sept. 7 show. Fan club presales will begin Tuesday, April 11, 10 a.m., with artist and promoter presales beginning Wednesday, April 12, 10 a.m. General public can secure tickets Friday, April 14, 10 a.m.
The 12-piece group — globally recognized for “world-class musicianship” — blends various genres of roots and American music: jazz, country, blues and more. No set list is ever the same.
The band is touring in support of their fifth studio release, “I Am The Moon,” which contains four albums and was released in summer 2022. It was written during the downtime of the Covid-19 pandemic, “inspired by an ancient poem of star-crossed lovers,” according to the band.
Tedeschi Trucks Band is: Susan Tedeschi (guitar, vocals), Derek Trucks (guitar), Gabe Dixon (keyboards, vocals), Brandon Boone (bass), Tyler “Falcon” Greenwell (drums, percussion), Isaac Eady (drums, percussion), Mike Mattison (vocals, guitar), Mark Rivers (vocals), Alecia Chakour (vocals), Kebbi Williams (saxophone), Ephraim Owens (trumpet), and Elizabeth Lea (trombone).
Tickets to their Wilmington show can be accessed here when released on sale.

Masters of the Mic: Hip-Hop 50
Five hip-hop icons are hitting the road to celebrate 50 years of the music genre’s founding.
Big Daddy Kane, Doug E Fresh, KRS-One, Rakim and Slick Rick are stopping at the downtown Riverfront Park Aug. 19. Tickets go on sale Friday, April 14, 10 a.m., here, with presales beginning Wednesday, April 12. The Live Nation code is VINYL.
Big Daddy Kane is a grandfather of MCs from the ’80s, while Doug E. Fresh is best known for beatboxing — the latter of whom was also incremental in the prominent rise of Slick Rick. The English-American rapper got his start with Doug E. Fresh & the Get Fresh Crew in the ’80s.
Rick has become a master storyteller, setting the foundation for artists like Eminem, Snoop Dog, and Kanye West, among others who have sampled his music over 50 years.
Known for bringing flow to rap in the golden age, Rakim will be on the tour, as well as KRS-One, one of the first groups to incorporate Jamaican-style rhythms into rap.
