Man charged with stabbing at Circle K

NEW HANOVER COUNTY — A man wanted in connection to a stabbing that took place at an area Circle K Friday has been arrested.

According to the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, a joint task force with Wilmington Police Department helped locate the suspect, Willie Darnell Deramus. They found a vehicle matching the description of Deramus’ car — a newer model brown Hyundai. Police conducted a traffic stop.

Deramus was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, carrying a concealed weapon, and a fugitive warrant out of Virginia for a similar incident.

On Friday morning around 9 a.m., the sheriff’s office responded to the filling station near the Wilmington International Airport’s campus at 2455 N 23rd St. According to police, two men engaged in an argument, which escalated when Deramus, allegedly armed with a knife, took a swing at the victim, striking him in chest.

Deramus is being held at the Hanover County Detention Facility without a bond bond.
