2022 Favorites: Port City Daily staff looks back at its top reads of the year

(Port City Daily/Amy Passaretti)

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Annually each December, Port City Daily counts down its most-read stories of the year based purely on analytics and how many times readers clicked on the page. But the most reads doesn’t always align with what PCD journalists think deserve greater attention.

Below is a curated list the PCD staff put together worthy of a read — or reread, whichever the case may be — from 2022.

Coverage includes protests that took place throughout the year, from the Proud Boys at a family LGBTQ storytime event to locals reacting to the overturning of Roe vs. Wade.

Annexation — or de-annexation as the case may be — seemed to be a hot topic, too, from Topsail to Leland.

Also, PCD reporters seemed to have a bit more “critter coverage” than normal, between Nativity cows on the run during the holiday season to fox-trapping getting overturned in Ocean Isle to a chicken farm moving in near neighborhoods on Sidbury Road.

Port City Daily strives to pique readers’ curiosities, perhaps answer questions they have had about the area and its local governments or maybe never considered until now.

Without readers’ dedicated support, PCD would not exist. So, thank you for supporting local, independent journalism, and cheers to a new year and more coverage that will remain informative, engaging, and perhaps even inspiring.

Catch up on some of PCD’s favorite stories of 2022 below, in no particular order:
