Southport Planning Board will meet at 10 a.m Monday regarding the Up Your Arts proposal and the board of alderman will meet at 5 p.m. to hear public feedback about the proposed “Southport Shops.”

Monday, Sept. 12

The Town of Burgaw Parks and Recreation Committee will meet at 5:30 p.m. at the Burgaw Community House, 101 E. Wilmington St.

The Topsail Beach Planning Board will meet at 10 a.m. at town hall, 820 S. Anderson Blvd. The meeting can be livestreamed on its website. An agenda was not available by press.

The Southport Planning Board will hold a special meeting at 10 a.m. in the Indian Trail Meeting Hall at 113 W. Moore St. to ask questions on the Up Your Arts proposal to use the Historic Courthouse at 201 E. Moore Street for a Community Arts Center. Meetings can be livestreamed here. 

The Southport Board of Aldermen will hold a public input meeting at 5 p.m. in the Indian Trail Meeting Hall at 113 W. Moore St. to discuss an application for a conditional rezoning for the proposed “Southport Shops” development. Meetings can be livestreamed here. 

The Brunswick County Planning Board will meet at 6 p.m. in commissioner chambers at the Sandifer Administration Building at 30 Government Center Drive in Bolivia, North Carolina. A few items on the agenda include:

  • Conditional rezoning of approximately 2.9 acres located at 9831 Blackwell Rd. near Belville from IG (Industrial General) to RR-CZ (Rural Residential Conditional Zoning) for tax parcel 0380002002
  • Planned unit development with 3,925 units located at Malmo Loop Road and Colon Mintz Road NE
  • Planned unit development with 424 units at Beach Drive SW and Hale Swamp Road Sw 
  • Planned unit development with 248 units at Long Beach Road and River Road
  • Planned unit development with 220 units on Royal Oak Road

The New Hanover County School Board Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee will meet at 5 p.m. at the Board of Education Center at 1805 South 13th Street. The meeting can be livestreamed on YouTube. An agenda was not posted as of press.

The Leland Town Council will hold a special meeting at 10 a.m. in Town Hall at 102 Town Hall Drive. The meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes a tour of the town.

Tuesday, Sept. 13

The Town of Burgaw Board of Commissioners will meet at 4:30 p.m. at the Historic Train Depot, 115 S. Dickerson St. A few items on the agenda include:

  • An ordinance amending the fiscal year 2022-2023 fee schedule to reflect changes to the zoning section
  • Discussion about traffic calming options for Wilmington Street
  • Three public hearings: an update to the unified development ordinance; a proposed development of an ABC Store on U.S. Hwy 117; and consideration of a special-use permit for a bed and breakfast at 115 Cowan St.

The Carolina Beach Town Council will meet at 6 p.m. in council chambers, 1121 N. Lake Park Blvd, Carolina Beach. The meeting can be livestreamed on YouTube. The agenda includes: 

  • Public hearing on a conditional zoning to consider a hotel with a restaurant and bar located at 205, 207, 209 N Lake Park Blvd and 204 Harper Avenue in the Central Business District (read more from PCD here).
  • Hearing on preliminary assessment resolution to improve the 1000 block S. Second Street
  • Text Amendment to amend Chapter 16. Article VI. Sec. 16-207 Sec. 16-1 to add “no commercial through traffic” language

The New Hanover County Board of Elections will meet at 5:15 p.m. in the Long Leaf Room at the Board of Elections Office, 1241A Military Cutoff Rd. The meeting can be livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Review of appointment of precinct officials to fill vacancies
  • Initial review of absentee applications

New Hanover County School Board Policy Committee will meet at 9 a.m. at the Board of Education Center at 1805 South 13th Street. The meeting can be livestreamed on YouTube. The agenda includes policy updates on the following: 

  • Title IX sexual harassment — definitions
  • Policy 2120: Code of ethics for School Board Members
  • Policy revisions from NCSBA (substantive changes)

The Leland Town Council will hold an agenda review meeting at 1 p.m. in Town Hall at 102 Town Hall Drive. The meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes: 

  • Presentation on the ADA Transition Plan
  • Founders Park project review
  • Resolution R-22-141 approving use of the design-build construction delivery method for the Founders Park playground, fitness station and site amenities project

The Belville Planning Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. in commissioner’s chambers at 63 River Road. The agenda includes: 

  • Brunswick Blueprint updates
  • Project updates
  • Discussion on proposed text amendments for recreational vehicles

The Wilmington Housing Authority will meet at 4 p.m. at Rankin Terrace Place, 415 N. 12th St. The Housing and Economic Opportunities Board of Directors will meet immediately after, followed by the Grover Plaza Board of Directors. The agenda includes the approval to implement a family self-sufficiency action plan to the board.

The Pender County Board of Education will meet at 6 p.m. at the Katherine Herring Resource Center, 798 U.S. Hwy. 117 in Burgaw. The meeting can be livestreamed on YouTube. A few items on the agenda include:

  • An update From Cheatham and Associates on the HVAC system analysis
  • Mobile classroom exploration at Surf City Elementary and Middle schools
  • PCS Budget 2022-2023

Wednesday, Sept. 14

The Topsail Beach Board of Commissioners will meet at 6 p.m. at town hall, 820 S. Anderson Blvd. An agenda was not available by press time.

The Wilmington Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization Technical Coordinating Committee will meet at 10 a.m. at 305 Chestnut St. The meeting can be livestreamed on Zoom. A few items on the agenda include:

  • Resolution supporting the allocation of additional direct attributable funds to the Town of Belville for the Belville Elementary multi-use path project
  • Resolution supporting the Town of Leland’s application for the USDOT’s Reconnecting Communities Pilot Program
  • Discussion about the revised draft 2024-2033 State Transportation Improvement Program

The New Hanover County/City of Wilmington Workforce Advisory Committee will have an education and awareness subcommittee meeting at 2 p.m. to discuss affordable housing education and awareness initiatives. The meeting will be held at the NHC Government Center, 230 Government Dr.

The Leland Tourism Development Authority will hold a regular meeting at 4 p.m. in Town Hall at 102 Town Hall Drive. The meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes a grant application for the development of an amphitheater in Founders Park (read more from PCD here).

Cape Fear Public Utility Authority will meet at 235 Government Center Dr. at 9 a.m. A few items on the agenda include:

  • Authorization for executive director to enter into a $3,084,300 contract with Calgon Carbon Corporation for carbon media reactivation and replacement services
  • Inter-Local agreement with New Hanover County for CFPUA to manage design and construction of water and sewer mains into n orthern part of New Hanover County
  • Authorization for executive director to enter into a $300,000 contract with HDR, Inc. for a utility consolidation feasibility study with the Town of Wrightsville Beach (read more from PCD here)

The Oak Island Planning Board will meet at 10:30 a.m. at 4601 East Oak Island Dr. Meetings are live streamed here. The agenda includes: 

  • Review of environmental impacts on vacant town-owned property
  • Proposed text amendment to the Unified Development Ordinance – Planned Unit Developments
