The Agenda: Rezoning for hotel and restaurant in CB, grant to restripe bike lanes in WB

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Every Monday Port City Daily will share upcoming government meetings around the tri-county region. If there’s an item of public interest, we’ll include that below the listed meeting, too.

Monday, Aug. 8

The Brunswick County Planning Board meets at 6 p.m. for its regular meeting in the commissioner’s chambers at 30 Government Center Dr. There are multiple planned developments on the agenda.

Tuesday, Aug. 9

The Southport Board of Alderman will hold a closed session meeting at 2 p.m. in the Indian Trail Meeting Hall at 113 W. Moore Street to review the proposed development agreement between the City of Southport and the developers of the proposed Indigo Plantation Phase 2 project (read more about Indigo from PCD here). The Carolina Beach Town Council will meet at 6 p.m. in council chambers, 1121 N. Lake Park Blvd, Carolina Beach. The meeting can be livestreamed on YouTube. The agenda can be viewed here.

The New Hanover County Board of Education Policy Committee will meet at 9 a.m. at the Board of Education Center, 1805 S. 13th St. The meetings are livestreamed here and the agenda can be found here.

The N.C Ports Finance Committee will meet at 4 p.m. in the board room at 222 Burnett Blvd. Members may join in person; an agenda wasn’t posted by press.

Pender County Board of Education will meet at 6 p.m. at: Pender County Government Offices, Hampstead Annex, 15060 US Highway 17 in Hampstead. Meetings can be watched here. Items on the agenda include:

  • Multiple services contracts, including nursing and instructional assistants
  • Cheatham HVAC update 
  • Aramark update for 2022-23 school year

The Burgaw Board of Commissioners will meet at 4:30 p.m. at the depot, 115 S. Dickerson St. Items on the agenda include:

  • Discussion about reducing speed limits in town
  • Consideration of appointing one member to the Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee 
  • Discussion about cleaning of the downtown sidewalks and replacement of electrical outlets for Christmas decorations

Wednesday, Aug. 10

The Navassa Planning Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. at town hall at ​​334 Main St. An agenda wasn’t posted by press.

The Cape Fear Public Utility Board will meet at 9 a.m. at 230 Government Center Dr. A few items on the agenda include:

  • $2,996,180 design-build contract with Crowder Construction for Southside WWTP interim upgrades phase II
  • $316,290 Black & Veatch International Company contract amendment #4 for Sweeney Treatment enhancements project

The Topsail Beach Board of Commissioners will meet at 6 p.m. at 820 S. Anderson Blvd. Items on the agenda include: 

  • Amendment to decrease Beach Inlet Sound Fund by $20,000
  • Discuss and consider installment funding, as approved by LGC, to purchase 802, 804 and 806 Anderson Blvd. for $1,085,000

Thursday, Aug. 11

The Carolina Beach Planning Board will meet at 6 p.m. in council chambers, 1121 N. Lake Park Blvd, Carolina Beach. The meeting can be livestreamed on YouTube. The agenda includes a consideration of a conditional zoning for a hotel with a restaurant and bar located at 205, 207, 209 N Lake Park Blvd and 204 Harper Avenue in the Central Business District.

The Surf City Planning Board will meet at 4 p.m. at Surf City Municipal Complex, 214 W. Florence Way. An agenda wasn’t posted as of press.

The Wrightsville Beach Board of Alderman will hold a regular meeting at 5:30 p.m. in council chambers located at 321 Causeway Drive. Watch the livestream here. The agenda includes:

  • Conduct a public hearing to consider a request from the Luper’s 8207 NOMA, LLC, 7006 Wrightsville Ave., for special use permit to operate a carry out restaurant
  • Consider STP-DA grant for the resurfacing and restriping of Causeway Drive to include attached bike lanes and other bike and pedestrian improvements
  • Consider accepting 51% interest in property consisting of 16.05 acres of marshland located on Parmele Boulevard
  • Discuss and consider creating a deputy chief position and approving pay and class scale for this position and the job description

The Oak Island Planning Board will meet at 10 a.m. at 4601 East Oak Island Dr. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes discussion about Cape Fear Council of Governments to begin the working with the town as part of the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) audit process.

The Leland Economic Development Committee will meet at 6 p.m. in town hall chambers, 102 Town Hall Dr. The meeting can be livestreamed on YouTube. The agenda can be viewed here.

The N. Topsail Beach Planning Board meets at 5 p.m. at town hall, 2008 Loggerhead Court. An agenda wasn’t posted as of press.

The City of Wilmington Historic Preservation Commission meets at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall, 102 N. 3rd St. Items on the agenda include:

  • Considering increased height variance for Bailey Theater. Read more from PCD here.
  • Installing a vent on the building at 104 North 4th Street, facing the North 5th Avenue façade 
  • Installing a fence at the front facade of 101 South 7th Street
