WILMINGTON — Two adults and one juvenile are dead after a shooting at Landfall shopping center in Wilmington Saturday.

Wilmington Police Department units responded to the Food Lion parking lot on Military Cutoff Road just after 4 p.m. By the time of their arrival, the three victims had succumbed to their injuries and the suspect was suffering a self-inflicted wound.

The suspect was transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center and is being treated.

“We feel that this is an isolated incident,” Chief Donny Williams said in a news briefing later in the evening. “There appears to be some form of personal relationship between the suspect and the three victims.”

According to a news release, the motivation behind the crimes is unknown.

“We are currently in the early stages of the investigation and are gathering all of the facts,” according to WPD. “Our investigators are working to notify next of kin.”

Chief Williams did not take questions at the 6:30 p.m. media briefing, citing the sensitivity of the circumstances. He indicated more information is forthcoming.
