The Agenda: This week in local government

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — It may feel impossible to keep up with local issues while they’re still being worked out.

Getting involved early on in the policy-making process can help ensure the community’s input gets heard before it’s too late to chime in.

You may not even need to attend (in person or virtually) to make sure your perspective is taken into consideration. Oftentimes, sending an email to government officials to be considered as a public comment pertaining to a particular item can put your voice into the public record.

Every Monday Port City Daily will share upcoming government meetings of interest around the tri-county region. If there’s an item of public interest, we’ll include that below the listed meeting, too.

Here’s what’s on this week’s agenda:

Tuesday, March 23

Carolina Beach Town Council will convene for a council workshop meeting at 9 a.m. at town hall. Preview the full agenda packet ahead of the meeting.

EPA, DEQ, and the Multistate Trust will host two virtual meetings to update the community on the status of the Kerr-McGee Chemical Corp – Navassa Superfund Site. The first meeting begins at 12 p.m. and the second begins at 6:30 p.m. Call in to the meeting by dialing 1-301-715-8592, and enter meeting ID 946 584 8922# and passcode 664564# or participate by joining online.

Brunswick County Board of Education will meet at 2 p.m. for its committee meetings at its central services building.

Wilmington and New Hanover County County/City Community Relations Advisory Committee will meet at 5:30 p.m. in the Hanover Room at the Main Library.

New Hanover County Zoning Board of Adjustment will meet at 5:30 p.m. at the Lucie F. Harrell Conference Room in the county government center.

Town of Leland Planning Board will meet at 6 p.m. at Leland Town Hall. Review the full agenda packet.

Thursday, March 25

Wave Transit will host a virtual meeting of its regular board at 12 p.m. View the agenda online. Attendees can join in online or over the phone at (786) 535-3211 | Access Code: 901-484-581.

Cape Fear Public Utility Authority will host two back-to-back virtual meetings, with its sustainability committee meeting at 2 p.m. and its long-range planning committee meeting at 3 p.m. For more details visit CFPUA’s calendar.

Cape Fear Community College‘s Board of Trustees will meet at 5 p.m. at Union Station.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will host a Facebook Live forum at 6 p.m. to detail plans to install a terminal groin along the southwest shoulder of the New River Inlet near Topsail Beach.
