A recent lawsuit settlement involving the N.C. State Board of Elections outlines how county elections offices can accept completed ballots postmarked on time through Nov. 12; state law requires ballots to be received by Nov. 6. The case is likely to be appealed and its ramifications remain unknown.
As of Monday, the state had received more than 1.4 million absentee ballot request forms, more than six times as many as it received in the same timeframe during the 2016 general election. Statewide turnout is at 43% among all registered voters.
Completed absentee ballot request forms can be emailed to local county elections office to ensure voters receive a ballot by Election Day.
