U.S. Marshals arrest murder suspect from July Wilmington shooting

WILMINGTON — Federal law enforcement tracked down and arrested a man wanted for shooting and killing a Wilmington man last month.

According to a release from the Wilmington Police Department, 35-year-old William Lamont Slater was arrested in Charleston, South Carolina by officers with the U.S. Marshals Task Force. Slater is wanted for the killing of Michael Neil Carr on July 11, 2020.

According to a WPD release at the time of the killing, Carr was found dead next to his vehicle, a Chevy Blazer that had crashed into a utility pole. Officers were able to determine that Carr had been shot about a block away before crashing. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detention and bond information for Slater has not been released yet.
