Update: Driving gunfight leaves one dead, one injured, Wilmington police investigating

Update 5 p.m. — According to the Wilmington Police Department, officers were first notified of the shooting between two vehicles on Carolina Beach Road shortly after 1 p.m.

Officers at the scene found one vehicle with three passengers. One was deceased, one was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and one was taken to WPD headquarters to be interviewed. The second vehicle had already fled the scene.

Traffic on Carolina Beach Road has been reopened.

WILMINGTON — Gunfire was exchanged between two vehicles traveling down Carolina Beach Road, leaving one dead and one wounded, according to the Wilmington Police Department (WPD).

More details are expected soon, but police said the Thursday afternoon gun battle took place over a “considerable stretch” of road. The vehicle of the deceased was found at the Meridian at Fairfield Park apartments in the Monkey Junction area.
