Man arrested after fatal hit and run near Ashley High, charged with DWI

NEW HANOVER COUNTY — Austin Taylor Hall was arrested after hitting a 45-year-old woman with his vehicle while she was walking on Hillside Drive in the Federal Point area south of Wilmington.

At approximately 10:50 p.m. Monday night, a North Carolina State Highway Patrol trooper responded to the incident which took place a few bocks west of the Food Lion on Carolina Beach Road.

The pedestrian, identified as Hillside Drive resident Jannon Gail Rogers, was found lying in the roadway. She was transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, according to a statement from the N.C. State Highway Patrol.

“Evidence discovered at the scene led troopers to find a suspect vehicle, a 2013 Chevrolet pickup, and driver [Austin Taylor Hall] near the scene of the collision,” according to the release.

Hall was arrested and charged with driving while impaired (DWI) and a felony hit and run.  He was placed under a $20,000 bond.

“Ongoing investigation may lead to more charges.  Due to the investigation, this is the only information available at this time,” according to the release.
