Man arrested after firing AR-15 into Wilmington homeless camp

WILMINGTON — A 52-year-old man allegedly fired an AR-15 into a homeless camp off Kidder Street Wednesday evening.

No one was injured, according to the Wilmington Police Department. Patrick Gallipoli, 52, was arrested and charged with going armed to the terror of the public and discharging a firearm in city limits.

Police believe Gallipoli entered the wooded area off Kidder Street where homeless people are known to camp. Armed with both an AR-15 and a .45 caliber handgun, Gallipoli sought to confront the homeless people living there, according to WPD.

When police arrived on the scene before 9 p.m. Wednesday, officers could hear yelling in the woods. Gallipoli is being held on a $1,500 secured bond.
