WILMINGTON — In an effort to slow the spread of Covid-19 and limit exposure, Wave Transit suspended bus fares — but that time is coming to an end in July.

“Effective Monday, July 6th, fares for fixed-route bus service will be reinstated and Wave Transit’s two transfer facilities, Forden Station and Padgett Station will open to the public. Effective Wednesday, July 1st thru Friday, July 3rd, customers will have an opportunity to purchase passes at either transfer station between the hours of 8:30 am — 4:30 pm. During this time, facilities will open to accommodate fare purchases only. Interior waiting areas and restrooms will remain closed until the Monday, July 6th opening,” according to a press release.

Free rides might be coming to an end but sanitation practices the public transit provided implemented are here to stay.

“The disinfecting regiment implemented for all vehicles and facilities remains in effect. In addition to routine cleaning, the exterior waiting areas at both transfer stations and the interior of all facilities are disinfected daily by means of a fogging application. All vehicles used for service are included in the disinfecting regiment. Protective barriers have been installed around the operator compartment on all vehicles, employees continue to receive and utilize the appropriate PPE as recommended, and sanitation stations and masks are available to customers,” according to the release.
