NEW HANOVER COUNTY — New Hanover County Regional Medical Center (NHRMC) could soon have a new partner or owner.
This week, the hospital’s Partnership Advisory Group (PAG) was given presentations from its top picks out of the six total medical systems that submitted bids: Atrium Health, Duke Health, and Novant Health. View all three presentations.
The PAG is set to deliver an update on the proposals and its progress Monday to the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners, which ultimately have the authority to select a new partner for the county-owned hospital system.
Though the PAG has set aside non-profits UNC Health (which is now paried with Novant’s proposal), Bon Secours Mercy Health, and the for-profit HCA Healthcare, the county can still select any of the six proposals or opt to forgo a new partnership altogether.
If the PAG decides on a partnership with one of its top picks, it will recommend its preferred partner to County Commissioners and NHRMC’s Board of Trustees by mid-July, according to a county press release Friday.
Meetings
The PAG will meet again Thursday, June 18 and Tuesday, July 7, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Both meetings will be held at the Burney Center at UNCW. Free parking will be available at Lot M near the Burney Center. Both meetings can be observed virtually via Zoom.
The New Hanover County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing to discuss all six proposals on Monday, June 22 at 5 p.m. The hearing will be held at the historic courthouse downtown in Room 301.
