WILMINGTON — New Hanover County Schools has denied a rumor that it said has been circulating around Williston Middle School and New Hanover High School claiming a confirmed case of coronavirus (COVID-19) at the New Hanover Regional Medical Center (NHRMC).
“This information is false,” according to a NHCS release sent Wednesday afternoon. “NHCS has been in contact with New Hanover County Government Officials and NHRMC. There are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in New Hanover County.”
NHCS said it was notified of a text message that is circulating around the two schools mentioning a case of the virus at NHRMC.
The school district said it was important that “we avoid the spread of misinformation and false statements to prevent panic.”
“For more information on how our community is responding to COVID-19, we encourage our students, faculty and families to visit New Hanover County Government online here.
