Update: Wilmington police make arrest in stabbing, say it was ‘isolated incident’

Update: The Wilmington Police Department (WPD) has arrested Hunter Allen Blankenship, 27, in connection with Monday’s stabbing.

Blakenship was charged with assault with a deadly weapon causing serious injury. A spokesperson for the WPD said Blankenship’s arrest was not included in the original overnight report of the stabbing. He is currently being held in the New Hanover County Jail on a $45,000 secured bond according to WPD.

The victim of Monday’s stabbing is recovering and is expected to survive. WPD believes the stabbing to be an isolated incident.

WILMINGTON — Police are investigating the stabbing of a Wilmington man who has been treated for non-life threatening injuries. So far, little information has been made available to the public as to the cause of the incident.

“Around 5 p.m. Monday, February 24, Wilmington police responded to the 200 block of 51st Street in reference to a stabbing. The victim, a 35-year-old man, had been stabbed an unknown amount of times. He was transported to NHRMC with non-life threatening injuries,” according to police.

The case is currently under investigation and police are not releasing any other information at this time.

When asked if police believe this was an isolated incident, Wilmington Police Department Spokeswoman Jessica Williams said that information was not known at this time, but she will be releasing more information after speaking with detectives.
