CAROLINA BEACH — Despite the rapid loss of empty real estate to set up shop, the Carolina Beach Boardwalk Amusement Park is planning on making its return to the beach town this summer.

As the Town of Carolina Beach continues to grow and attract new development, like the recently completed Fork ‘n’ Cork and attached residential units across from the boardwalk, the amusement park has continued to lose vacant space where the rides used to sit.

According to the amusement park’s Facebook account, and confirmed by town staff, the park is returning, albeit to limited space. In previous years rides and attractions have spread across the entire boardwalk area but as development continues, space has been limited.

Development in the area also led to the cancellation of the Port City Rib Fest last year (which relied on some of the same properties as the amusement park does).

According to President of the Pleasure Island Chamber of Commerce Greg Reynolds, rumors have been making the rounds regarding the status of the amusement park and whether or not it would return. As of now, from what he can tell, the park is returning and will have the same amount of rides and attractions as it did last year.

Obviously, the land where Fork ‘n’ Cork is located will no longer be used for the park, but other properties around the boardwalk area are still available, he said.

Port City Daily did reach out to the Carolina Beach Boardwalk Amusement Park for comment on future plans but at the time of publication has not received a response.
