WILMINGTON — Authorities are investigating a shooting that sent one man to the hospital over the weekend.

According to the Wilmington Police Department (WPD), officers responded to a “multiple-round ShotSpotter” alert on the 1000 block of Orange Street around 10:20 p.m. on Saturday, January 18.

When officers arrived, they found a 21-year-old male suffering from non-life threatening gunshot wounds, according to WPD. The victim, whose name has not been released, was taken to the New Hanover Regional Medical Center for treatment.

According to WPD, witnesses said, “someone in an SUV opened fire on a crowd gathered in the area, then fled.”
