WILMINGTON — The Wilmington Police Department (WPD) is investigating a shooting that may have wounded one person

“Just before 1:30 a.m. Saturday, January 11, Wilmington police responded to the 1000 block of Chestnut Street in reference to a multiple-round Shotspotter alert,” according to WPD.

Police say that upon arrival, a Mercury Grand Marquis was seen “accelerating rapidly” away from the scene. Officers followed the car until the driver, 27-year-old Rodney Seager Bradley, ran from the vehicle and was apprehended.

While searching the vehicle, officers found a stolen 9mm handgun under the driver’s seat of Bradley’s vehicle; Bradley was arrested and charged with felony possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm by a felon, drug possession, operating a vehicle with a license revoked for an impaired driving offense, and resisting arrest.

Bradley has a series of prior convictions, including multiple felony drug selling offenses committed in2017 and a felony involuntary manslaughter committed in 2013. The manslaughter conviction was the result of 2nd-degree murder charges stemming from an incident where an 86-year-old man died after being struck in the head by Bradley during an altercation. WPD identified Bradley as being a verified gang member at the time.

Bradley is currently being held at the New Hanover Couty Sheriff’s Office detention center on a $25,000 secured bond. He is due in court on Monday. He has a separate court date later this month for charges from 2019, including felony cocaine possession and resisting arrest.

While pursuing and then arresting Bradley, officers were informed that a man had been admitted to the New Hanover Regional Medical Center with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, according to WPD. The man was reportedly treated and released. WPD cannot confirm the man was the victim of the Chestnut Street shooting, only that the timeline suggests he might be.

This case is still under investigation. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Wilmington Police Department at (910)-343-3609 or use tip708.com to provide information anonymously.
