WILMINGTON — Police are searching for a suspect involved in a bank robbery that happened around 1:50 pm on Friday at the Dogwood State Bank off Military Cutoff Road.
The suspect, an older white male, made off with an undisclosed amount of cash, leaving the scene in a white Lincoln MKZ.
Police have given limited information on the situation as the investigation is ongoing but have said the weapon used was a ‘household tool.’ Specifics were withheld for fear of inspiring copycat incidents, according to police.
“He was armed, but the weapon was not a gun or a knife. No one was injured during the incident. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Wilmington Police Department at (910)-343-3609 or use www.tip708.com for anonymous methods,” accord to a brief press release from the Wilmington Police Department.
On Dec. 26, the Wells Fargo bank, located nearly across the street was the victim of an attempted bank robbery. The man, in that case, was not charged with robbery as he gave the money back to another bank employee immediately after receiving it.
