Wilmington Police investigating Sunday morning shooting that killed one, badly wounded another

WILMINGTON — Authorities are investigating an early Sunday morning shooting that killed one and left another in serious condition.

According to the Wilmington Police Department (WPD), “Officers responded to [a residence at] 1010 S. 4th St around 1 a.m. this morning. When they arrived they found two men with gunshot wounds.”

At the scene, officers found 56-year-old George Porter, III, was serious gunshot wounds. Porter was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center but died shortly afterward from his wound.

A second victim, 52-year-old David Jackson, Jr., remains in serious condition at the hospital.

According to WPD,”[w]itnesses told police the shooting happened after several males came into the residence attempting to rob individuals inside and began shooting. Porter and Jackson were wounded during the incident.”

According to WPD, officers believe illegal drugs were involved in the shooting. No arrests have been made yet.
