LELAND — YMCA will open a new Afterschool Care program in Leland this upcoming 2019-2020 school year.
The new Afterschool Care site will be housed at Lifepoint Church in a new building on Reed Road in Leland. The program will pick up students from Belville Elementary, Lincoln Elementary, and Town Creek Elementary Schools.
It’s important to note that the program will open at the beginning of the school year, but Lifepoint Church location will not open until mid-to-late September.
Prior to that, students enrolled in the program will be temporarily bused to the Nir Family YMCA (2710 Market St.) in Wilmington. These students can be picked up at the YMCA until 5:25 p.m. —after that, those students will be bused back to Lifepoint Church, where parents can pick them up between 5:45 and 6 p.m.
Once the program opens at Lifepoint Church, parents can pick students up at any time until 6 p.m.
The announcement marks YMCA of Southeastern NC’s first expansion into Brunswick County.
“We are thrilled to expand our reach to serve our community in Brunswick County,” Corey Maarschalk, YMCA Youth Services Branch Director, said in a press release. “Allowing more families to have childcare during the after school hours provides a peace of mind for parents and an exciting space for children to learn and grow.”
