Monday, Brunswick County Board of Commissioners appointed Woodruff as its new manager at a starting salary of $180,000. The county announced the decision late last month in a press release but made it official at the regular board meeting this week.
Woodruff will replace Ann Hardy, current Brunswick County Manager, who has served the county in this capacity since May 2013 with plans to retire in November.
Hardy began working with Brunswick County as its Director of Fiscal Operations in January 2005 at a starting salary of $91,500. By the time she wrapped up this role in May 2013, she was earning $121,650. Her annual pay increased by $23,350 after being appointed to the county’s top position, at a starting salary of $145,000.
Hardy is set to retire as Brunswick County Manager after six years in the position, effective Nov. 1. Her current salary as Manager is $198,450.
Woodruff’s starting salary at Brunswick County will be $35,000 higher than Hardy’s starting salary in 2013. He joins Brunswick County with 16 years of experience serving various coastal counties as manager. In January 2015, Woodruff joined Pender County at a starting salary of $145,000. This move earned him about $22,000 more than his previous role as Beaufort County Manager, according to Beaufort County NOW.
He joined Beaufort County in 2011 at a starting salary of $110,000 after serving Camden County in Virginia as its manager for eight years.
Woodruff will join the county on Oct. 21 to allow for a two-week transition period.
