WILMINGTON — Police are investigating a series of shootings in Wilmington after a Friday night shooting left one male victim in the hospital.

It is the third shooting with a mile area in the southside of Wilmington but police are unable to determine if the incidents are related.

On Friday, a 26-year-old male was shot around 11 p.m. on the 1100 block of Greenfield Street, the victim has been uncooperative, Wilmington Police Department spokeswoman Linda Thompson said.

He was transported to the hospital by EMS, she said.

On Thursday two incidents involving firearms took place, the first took place around lunchtime on Queen Street and was reported as a “possible shootout.”

“Linda Thompson, spokeswoman for the police department, said witnesses told police two vehicles were exchanging gunfire on Queen Street between 15th and 16th streets just after 12:30 p.m,” WECT reported.

The next incident came later Thursday evening when a 56-year-old man was left with minor injuries.

“Police responded to a Shotspotter notification at 1902 Colwell Avenue around 5:33 pm yesterday afternoon. When they arrived they discovered 56-year-old, Frank Shepard had been shot and sustained a minor injury. He was transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
