BURGAW — Three Pender County men were arrested Wednesday evening in connection with a roadside armed robbery that occurred on Memorial Day weekend in Willard.
According to Captain James Rowell of the Pender County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO), the arrests were made after search warrants on the 100 block of Tealbrier Street in Burgaw were executed by members of the PCSO and Burgaw Police Department.
Rowell said a victim was allegedly robbed by the three men on Friday, May 24 while inside a vehicle.
“During the armed robbery, one victim was shot,” Rowell said. “The victim was transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.”
Further details of the incident will not be released at this point as this is an ongoing investigation.
The search warrant led to the arrests of two Willard residents and one Burgaw resident. According to the charges, it appears that two of the suspects fired into the vehicle.
Burgaw resident Jakell Markese Newton, 18, was arrested and charged with two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a deadly weapon, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, and discharging a firearm into an occupied property with serious bodily injury. He is currently in the Pender County Jail under a $400,000 secured bond.
Willard resident Tyron Markel Allen, 18, was arrested and charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, discharging a weapon into occupied property, and assault with intent to kill. He is currently in the Pender County Jail under a $250,000 secured bond.
Willard resident Anthony Rasheen Allen, 21, was arrested and charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault with a deadly weapon. He is in the Pender County Jail under a $200,000 secured bond.
