LELAND — Leland Town Council will consider dissolving its current Transportation Oversight Committee and recreating it to be managed under the town’s Planning Board.
The seven-member board consists of four of the town’s Wilmington Metropolitan Planning Organization (WMPO) representatives, two Planning Board members, and one Parks and Recreation board member.

Under the proposed reorganization, the Transportation Oversight Committee (TOC) would live on as a subcommittee, falling under the town’s Planning Board.
Current TOC members unanimously approved the staff-initiated recommendation on April 4. “Staff’s recommendation to “relocate” the TOC from under the Town Council to under the Planning Board is a step in the continued effort for more integrated and coordinated planning for the Town, and will prove valuable in upcoming comprehensive planning effort,” an item summary on the request states.
Council will consider finalizing the change at its regular meeting Thursday, May 23 at 6 p.m. at Leland Town Hall.
