WILMINGTON — Police have secured warrants for a 29-year-old man, Deaundre Antez Newkirk for a hit and run incident after promising he would return to the scene but “had to leave” — he never returned.
According to the Wilmington Police Department, “Officers responded to the 2600 block of Carolina Beach Road on May 1 around 4:30 p.m. where the 18-year-old victim said she was stopped at a red light when a large, white box truck rear-ended her. Both drivers exited the vehicle, where the victim told officers Newkirk said he would pay for the damages but he had to leave,
“He told the victim he would return to the scene. However, he only provided a nickname and a phone number, which the victim said she attempted to call multiple times. He did not provide any of the legal information required to be exchanged following a crash, nor did he ever return to the scene.”
According to police the victim’s car sustained about $500 worth of damage and she suffered minor injuries.
