Teenage girl struck by car in early morning accident, Wilmington Police Department investigating

According to police, the victim and a group of friends attempted to cross South College Road without using a crosswalk.

WILMINGTON — A teenage girl was struck by a vehicle early Sunday morning while attempting to cross South College Road.

According to the Wilmington Police Department (WPD), an unnamed 17-year-old girl from Clayton remains in serious condition at New Hanover Regional Medical Center after being struck by a vehicle on the 700 block of South College Road near UNCW.

“The victim and a group of friends were attempting to cross nine lanes of traffic around 2:20 a.m. when a motorist traveling in the southbound lane collided with her. They were not in a crosswalk,” according to WPD.

WPD charged the driver of the vehicle, 21-year-old Taquan Marquse Barrett, 21, for driving with a revoked license.

According to WPD, the investigation is ongoing.
