NEW HANOVER COUNTY — A New Hanover County Sheriff’s Deputy was sent to the hospital after being involved in a crash on his motorcycle earlier today.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the deputy was participating in a speed check near Coddigntown Elementary on Carolina Beach Road near Monkey Junction.
Two deputies on motorcycles were in the area to enforce speed limits in the school zone. One of the deputies pursued a vehicle to pull it over for speeding, and requested the second deputies assistance in diverting traffic around the traffic stop area. As the second deputy made his way through heavy traffic, a car apparently pulled in front of his motorcycle and braked abruptly, causing the deputy to strike the car.
The deputy was taken to New Hanover County Regional Medical Center with a leg injury but is currently recovering, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
