WILMINGTON — A Leland man has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and possession of a firearm by a felon for an early Saturday morning shooting that left one man with serious injuries.
According to the Wilmington Police Department, Johnny Jermaine Johnson, 40, was arrested by Members of the US Marshals Fugitive Taskforce with the Wilmington Police Department late Tuesday night after locating him in Brunswick County.
“Officers responded to New Hanover Regional Medical Center around 2 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23 in reference to a gunshot victim. Upon further investigation, officers determined the victim, 36, had been shot outside the Jamaica House Sports Bar & Grill on Carolina Beach Road,” according to a press release.
According to police, this was an isolated incident and not related to concerns over retaliation for last week’s gang-related murder of Zalleux Johson.
Johnson did not receive a bond and is being held in the New Hanover County Jail.
