In Pictures: Wilmington parties, celebrating New Year’s Eve as 2018 comes to a close

Some stories, like New Year's Eve in Wilmington, are best told in photos.

WILMINGTON — The night was unseasonably warm, oysters were on the half shell, and the city was in festive spirits as 2018 drew to an end last night.

Before you head out to the gym to tackle your New Year’s resolutions, take a look at our in-depth photo gallery of the night’s celebrations. We start at Wrightsville Beach, where the sun finally returned and families and dogs took their last beach walks of the year.

After a couple of house parties in Forest Hills and Carolina Place and a quick stop at the neighborhood bar, Burnt Mill Creek, we took to the packed streets of downtown Wilmington.

Savannah Hodge was visiting from Colorado.

“Downtown was packed last night. People here are crazy,” Hodge said. “One girl was wearing strings and not much else. And the sequins were out in full force — sequin dresses, sequin skirts, sequin shirts. People in Wilmington really know how to have a good time.”
