BRUNSWICK COUNTY — Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office will soon get a half-million dollar upgrade to its security camera system.

On Monday, Brunswick County Commissioners approved the $522,282.68 project.

A “turn-key” project, the security upgrade will install 181 new cameras at various Sheriff’s Office facilities. The detention center, Sheriff’s Office, 911 center, “Building O,” and “Building M” will all receive new cameras and security equipment.

Currently an analog system, North Carolina Sound will install the new IP-based digital system. With 21 monitors at 14 different viewing stations, sheriff’s officers will have expanded security options when the new system is installed.

Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office first put out the request for proposal for the project in February. Because the county only budgeted for $350,000 for this year, the project will be paid for over a two-year period.
